{"id":908,"date":"2011-04-06T11:24:29","date_gmt":"2011-04-06T09:24:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sonia.noblogs.org\/?p=908"},"modified":"2011-04-06T11:24:29","modified_gmt":"2011-04-06T09:24:29","slug":"cfp-critical-whiteness-studies-methodologies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sonia.noblogs.org\/?p=908","title":{"rendered":"CFP Critical Whiteness Studies Methodologies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Call for papers &#8211; Special\u00a0Issue on Critical Whiteness Studies Methodologies<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">This call for papers grew out of the efforts of the\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wun.ac.uk\/wun-white-spaces-postgraduate-network\">White Spaces Postgraduate Network<\/a><\/em> that is connecting students engaged in critical\u00a0whiteness studies. In the inaugural\u00a0PGR\u00a0conference\u00a0<em>New Territories in\u00a0Critical Whiteness Studies<\/em> (August  2010, University of Leeds) one of the issues raised was the need to  address methodological challenges in critical whiteness studies. One of  the initiatives we have already undertaken is the organisation\u00a0of a  virtual seminar entitled\u00a0<em>Discourse Analytical Approaches towards Uncovering\u00a0 Power Relations, with a specific focus on Race\/Whiteness<\/em> (January,\u00a02011).  Our endeavors are further reflected in this call; therefore we wish to  invite\u00a0MSc\/MA\/MS,\u00a0MPhil, PhD students and junior academics from all  geographic regions to contribute to the further investigation and  development of the complexities of this field. This special issue of <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gjss.org\/\">Graduate Journal of Social Science<\/a><\/em> (GJSS) is open to any contributions intended to give fresh and creative  insights on methodological approaches in critical whiteness studies.  This includes (but is not limited to):<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li>The development and applications of theory, within and across  disciplines that open new territories in critical whiteness studies;<\/li>\n<li> the innovative use of methods, presentation of emerging ones and  application of mixed methods used in researching unequal power relations  with a specific focus on race\/whiteness and accompanying intersections;<\/li>\n<li> new directions in data collection and analysis;<\/li>\n<li> approaches to writing about whiteness critically and the dissemination of knowledge within and outside academia;<\/li>\n<li> creative approaches in researching visual materials and questioning privileges of normativity and whiteness;<\/li>\n<li> strategies for collective and participatory research that can be  insightful and thought-provoking for critical whiteness studies;<\/li>\n<li> ontological and epistemological questions and challenges in  researching whiteness critically that include issues around reflexivity,  knowledge production and discursive frameworks in critical whiteness  studies;<\/li>\n<li> scholars\u2019 personal challenges and critical self-reflections in doing critical whiteness studies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Submissions: <\/strong>articles (5000-8000 words), book reviews  (1000-1500 words), visual materials, short essays (2000-3000 words) and  announcements for up-and-coming seminars, lectures, conferences, special  issues, blogs or other events and spaces that are opening new platforms  for the development of critical whiteness studies. All submissions must  be anonymized and accompanied by the GJSS article submission form,  which can be downloaded from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gjss.org\/images\/stories\/docs\/gjsssubmissionform.doc\">GJSS website<\/a>.  Please include an abstract, a short author bio and 3 to 5 keywords.
